Immigration in the workplace impacts many Employers and employees Internationally and Nationwide whether they are on either side of the volatile controversy. However, the focus of this training is not on the political philosophies of immigration but on the impact the Trump Administration has on how Employers navigate immigration changes and enforcement initiatives. Moreover, new Immigration regulations changes the direction for those Employers who rely on Immigrants from specific locations to enhance their workforce with skilled employees and thereby enhancing the products and services they offer.
But even if your organization does not use immigrants to enhance the workforce, Immigration regulations can still impact you and your employees. With the official nomination of Thomas Homan, the former Acting Director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (commonly called ICE) to Director, some of the ICE initiatives will impact the workplace. Increases in worksite enforcement to four to five times of previous administration, Increase in I-9 document investigations and audits, increase in workplace crackdowns as well as retribution to those states who refuse to share information to ICE due to sanctuary status are just a few of the enforcement initiatives being utilized. These efforts can impact Employers with worksite disruption, increase audits for illegal aliens but accepting I-9 document audits instead. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has increased I-9 document Enforcement Auditors in the Tampa, Florida location by hiring 3 floors of auditors. The increase in auditors is tied to increasing fines and penalties because of I-9 document errors and adding more funds for other enforcement initiatives.
